All brush finished stainless steel handle construction
with polished natural hardwood inlay, notched safety slider to double
lock the knife in the open or closed position and a contoured polished
pocket clip on the reverse. Excellent finish, super fast coil fired auto
blade and a precision finish, these new 5th generation models are truly
amazing! A new way to make auto knives, the stainless steel skeleton style
frames and blades on these new models are laser cut and then fastened
together using all stainless hardware. Then the handle material and pocket
clip are mounted. This less expensive manufacturing process produces a
very impressive precision finish knife with an excellent weight to it.
The really amazing thing is that these knives are done in stainless steel
for the handle part. Just a few automakers have been able to produce a
stainless handled auto using the computer controlled milling method that
was used to make 99% of the coil fired similar appearanced autos built
in the last decade. The cost of these knives was typically double ($500
minimum) per knife of their alloy handle brothers because the cutting
wore on the machines - stainless steel is very hard in comparison to alloy
and not at all suited for the manufacturing method used on all the other
knives. These guys here - the new generation - are built more like a custom
made folding knife with laser cut parts and then spacer type construction.
The handles are also about 30% thinner than all the other autos. This
is accomplished with a kind of power bulge where the spring is on the
back of the knife. Instead of making the material the same height from
top to bottom to cover the internal "coil well" area where the
spring sits there's a neat little shape there that traces that area inside.
Beyond just another auto knife these are truly the best auto design update
since even the coil itself in spring loaded knives. Worthy of field use
or your collection!
